Hurricane Preparedness
Hurricane Season is officially June 1 thru November 30 each year. Your Board and Property Manager encourage you to be prepared. Here are some things that are required by our Documents if you will not be in Hawthorne during all or part of Hurricane Season, which is defined as June 1 to November 30.

  • While not in Hawthorne remove all furniture, potted plants, and other movable object from you porch, balcony, or patio.

  • Designate a responsible firm or individual satisfactory to the Association to install and remove your hurricane shutters. (Arrange this NOW. It is very hard to find such a person or firm at the last minute when a storm is approaching.) Make sure our property management knows the name of this firm or person, and also how to contact you and them if necessary. It is also a good idea to let your neighbors know this information.

  • Remember, no hurricane shutters of any type are to be installed or closed on the front of the house until a hurricane watch or warning encompassing the Hawthorne location is issued by the National Weather Service. Outside the time of a hurricane watch, only acceptable shutters, as defined page 9 of the Architectural Guidelines, may be installed on the sides or back of the house. Also, the front and unacceptable shutters that may be on the back or side of the house must be removed within 10 days after the removal of the watch.

As a reminder, any change in the type of hurricane shutters used on your house requires the prior approval of the Architecture Review Board.

The name and contact information of the Home Watch or company providing care to your home should also be provided to the Property Managers in the event the Association needs to contact them when the Owner may not be available.

Please take these responsibilities seriously so we are all better prepared this year!
